My teaching and research activities have focused on Finance and Macroeconomics for the most part. Concerning the relevance of the topics addressed, the potential impacts of financial crises on the real economy can hardly be exaggerated, so much so since 2007/08. Initially I was interested in the valuation of bank deposit insurance. Later on, insurance schemes extended to mutual funds (guaranteed funds showed up along with other types of arrangements) and pension plans (in those countries where the latter have been privatized). At about the same time my teaching and research interests turned to the management and valuation of investments in real assets in general and natural resources in particular. Specifically I refer to power generation and fisheries management. Beyond meeting the growing needs for consumption and production, the environmental impacts of both activities are getting ever more prominent.
I have been invited to present my research at around ten institutions, among them the Bank of Spain, the BBV Foundation, and Utrecht Business School. I have been the Primary Investigator in three research projects (funded by FundaciĆ³n BBV, Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and Basque Government). Last, I have been a Postdoctoral Visiting Scholar at the Engineering Systems Division (ESD) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for six months.
