Iñigo Albaina holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the UPV/EHU. He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Energy Engineering of the School of Engineering of Bilbao.

He has participated in numerous projects with both public and private companies and is an expert in conducting experimental tests, having developed a relevant amount of equipment, applications and facilities for carrying out experiments in multiple laboratories.

He currently participates in two lines of research, in the first one he carries out research work as a member of the consolidated Research Group of the GV/EJ called ITSAS-REM and focuses his research activity mainly in the area of marine energies. He has participated in the design and construction of a large wave tank to carry out different types of research, including those related to to wave energy conversion systems (WEC).

The second line of research is focused on the metrological study and verification of water meters and valves, having developed an automated bench where to carry out all kinds of experiments and tests in collaboration with several companies in the sector. As a result, the Water Meter Testing and Verification Laboratory (LEVC) has been established, of which he is the Director. The laboratory is accredited by ENAC and as an OAVM (Authorized Metrological Verification Agency) at the state level.
