Urko Izquierdo Ereño is a Chemical Engineer and Doctor in Chemical Engineering with International Mention, unanimously outstanding Cum Laude qualification and extraordinary award for the best Doctoral Thesis in the area of Engineering by the UPV/EHU. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Energy Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering Bilbao (Building I).

He has professional experience in the industrial sector by working in cement production companies (Bamburi Cement - Kenya and Cementos Lemona - Spain), paper (Metsa Botnia - Finland) and fuels (Bionor - Spain). In 2009, he joined the SuPrEn research group to carry out his Doctoral Thesis, which was defended in 2014. As a predoctoral student, he was 6 months, and as a postdoctoral student another 3 months, at the Fraunhofer-Institut für Mikrotechnik und Mikrosysteme (Mainz, Germany). He currently carries out her research work as a member of the consolidated Research Group of the GV/EJ called ITSAS-REM and focuses his research activity mainly on the area of marine energies.
