The Department of Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology is composed of 3 departmental sections, called Departmental Section of the Faculty of Science and Technology (Leioa), Departmental Section of the Faculty of Pharmacy (Vitoria-Gasteiz) and Departmental Section of the Faculty of Medicine (Leioa).

This Department teaches in several bachelor's degrees and also has a long experience in teaching postgraduate studies. It is currently responsible for the Master MICROBIOLOGY AND HEALTH and a Doctoral programme. From its creation, this department is educating Doctors, having directed more than 100 doctoral thesis.

Several research groups are constituted in the Department, whose work relates to human infections, and also in the field of environment. The Microbiology and Infection Control Service of the Basurto University Hospital is linked to this Department. As well, there are research and training links with other institutes and Universities.
