Jon-Mirena LANDA is currently Full Professor in Criminal Law in the Faculty of Law -Biscay- (UPV/EHU) and the director of the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights and Public Authorities (UPV/EHU).

At the moment he is director of a research team funded by the Spanish Government (I+D+I DER2015-64599-P UE/FEDER) analyzing sentencing with a special focus upon hate-crime and terrorist offences. His principal lines of research deal with racism, xenophobia and discrimination, as well as hate crimes, terrorism, crimes against humanity and penology.

He has published 10 monographs and more than 50 articles in scientific journals, book chapters, translations and lecturing materials. Among others, he has been recently research and visiting fellow at the University of Cambridge-Lauterpatch Centre for International Law (UK; 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014), the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany, 2015), the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights in Vienna (Austria, 2016) and the Edinburgh Law School at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland, UK, 2018). He was awarded the Vom Humboldt research fellowship in November 2005, and he has been director of the Human Rights Office of the Basque Government (Justice Department) from November 2005 until May 2009.

He teaches at the Faculty of Law -Biscay- (UPV/EHU) in Basque since 1992 and Criminal Law in English since 2011. He has been a co-translator of the 2001, 2004 and 2012 bilingual Criminal Code (Spanish-Basque).
