Ignacio Mendiola. PhD in sociology and professor of sociology at the University of the Basque Country. His main lines of research are about how power relationships affect the production of subjects and spaces, giving special importance to the analysis of biopolitics and necropolitics.

He has been a visiting scholar at the University of Lancaster, the University of Buenos Aires, the University of Groningen and the University of Minho.

Member of the Study Group on the History of Prison and Punitive Institutions.

He has published the books: Movimientos sociales y trayectos sociológicos: hacia una sociología práxica y multidimensional de lo social (Universidad del País Vasco, 2001); Elogio de la mentira. En torno a una sociología de la mendacidad (Lengua de Trapo, 2006; translated into Italian), El jardín biotecnológico. Tecnociencia, transgénicos y biopolítica (Los libros de la Catarata, 2006) and Habitar lo inhabitable. La práctica político-punitiva de la tortura (Bellaterra, 2014). He has edited the book Rastros y rostros de la biopolítica. (Anthropos, 2009), and the special issues Biopolítica y movilidad (Política y Sociedad, Vol. 49, núm. 3, 2012), Espacios y tiempos en las violencias contemporáneas (Revista Athenea Digital, Vol. 16, núm. 1, 2016) and Espacio fronterizo: producción securitaria, vivencia e (in)movilidad (España, Europa y América Latina) (Revista CIDOB d´Afers Internacionals, núm. 122, 2019).
