Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

DI Language: Arabic Language is a 6-credit elective subject included in different degrees: Philology, English Studies, Basque Studies and Translation and Interpretation.

It is a subject that contributes to the training of students to expand their knowledge for their future professional practice.

Learning the Arabic language does not only involve knowledge of a new language but is related to other objectives: acquiring awareness of the multiculturalism of the society in which we live, understanding the culture of other countries, so close to us and so far away. at the same time and achieve integration and equality.

Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation

Initiate the student's linguistic competence in the standard Arabic language. Assimilate and develop knowledge of reading and writing in Arabic script. Reproduce the phonetics of the Arabic language.

Theoretical and practical contentToggle Navigation

1. Introduction to the Arabic language Evolution, diglossia and standardization.

2. Graphonomy and phonology I: The Arabic alphabet (isolated letters, initials, middles and finals). Pronunciation, transcription and description.

3. Graphonomy and phonology II: Long and short vowels.

4. Graphonomy and phonology III: Special spellings. Auxiliary signs.

5. The root. Syllable. Accent.

6. Vocalized reading.

7. Nominal morphology: Noun and adjective: Determination and indetermination, gender, case and number.

8. Initiation to noun sentence.

MethodologyToggle Navigation

To take the subject Arabic Language I, it is not necessary to have prior knowledge of it.

For its study and learning, a cooperative methodology will be used in class with the use of didactic strategies appropriate to the level of this course that allows students to acquire the necessary basic skills.

Ordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

The test to be developed consists of a written exam, which corresponds to 100% of the grade, and an optional reading exam, in order to raise the final grade for the subject.

The minimum grade to pass the subject will be a 5 in the final exam.

Extraordinary Call: Orientations and DisclaimerToggle Navigation

The same guidelines as the ordinary call will be followed without the option of the reading exam.

The minimum grade to pass the subject will be a 5 in the final exam.
