Iñigo Cobelo was born in Bilbao, Spain, in 1977. He received the M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, in 2001 and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK in 2006. He joined LABEIN (now TECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION) in 2002 where he currently is the Energy market director. He has managed multiple national and international projects related to grid control, renewable energy, power electronics, electricity markets, smart metering, data analytics, electric vehicles and energy efficiency. He has participated in R&D projects as visitor in the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California (2007) and CSIRO, Australia (2011). From January 2015 to date is also lecturer at the Power System department of the University of the Basque Country. He has also participated as an entrepeneur in the creation of an start-up company in the field of energy efficiency. He is author of two patents and multiple papers.
