Drgree in Physics (1982) and PhD in Physics (1991) by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He is an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Physics I at the School of Engineering of Bilbao since 1986 and a Full Professor since 2003. He currently teaches the following subjects: Physics in the first year of the degree in Industrial Technology, Optics Applied to the Telecommunications in the fourth year of the degree in Telecommunications Technology Engineering and Materials for Space I: Fundamentals in the Master's Degree in Space Science and Technology.

He is the lider of the Photothermal Techniques Laboratory where the research is focused on the development of methods to measure the dynamic thermal properties (conductivity and diffusivity) and to detect and characterize sub-surface defects in materials of technological interest. He is co-author of 160 scientific articles and more than 180 communications to international meetings, 19 of them as invited or plenary conferences. He has been the supervisor of 6 PhD theses. He is a member of the scientific committee of the following biennial conferences: International Conference on Photoacoustic and Photothermal Phenomena and Conference on Quantitative Infrared Thermography.
