Andoni Cossío received his MA in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies from the University of the Basque Country (2015), which was awarded a mention towards excellence by the Spanish Government. His Final Master's Dissertation (TFM) on the role and symbolism of forests, woods and trees in Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, obtained an excellent/distinction (9.00). In 2014 he was awarded his BA in English Studies from the University of the Basque Country with a Final Year Project (TFG) on oral tradition in The Lord of the Rings, which was also granted an Excellent/distinction (10.00). He attended the International Summer School held at the University of Exeter (2016), where he was offered a scholarship to take a course on J.R.R. Tolkien entitled “Tolkien on Page and Screen” achieving First Class Honours. He also attended the “Anglo-Saxon Literature and Culture” seminar in Exeter College, University of Oxford, achieving a Distinction.
He is currently working on a PhD dissertation on the role of trees and forests in Tolkien’s works. He has presented several papers on Tolkien at international conferences and has published his research outcomes in varied peer-reviewed sources. He has been involved in the organization of five International conferences on the Inklings (2015-2019) and conferences on the myth in the arts (2016-2019), both events held at the University of the Basque Country.
