This subject is offered to students during the second four-month period of the second year of the study programme. By then, students have already gone through basic subjects of the first year and have experienced two periods of clinical placements at hospital.

The main characteristic of this subject is that focuses strongly in community health rather than individual health status. Community health is influenced by individual factors but also, to a great extent by social determinants and the broader context.

Primary health care is studied as the entry point to the health system, where a great proportion of health issues are addressed and the relevance of primary health team is highlighted.

Describe the core elements of primary health care and the necessary activities to provide a comprehensive nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

Identify the elements required to develop a health diagnosis in a community.

Understand the concepts of health promotion and health education to be able to elaborate health promotion interventions for individuals, groups and communities from a participatory approach.

Cross-cutting competence:

Team work: This competence implies collaboration with other students in the development of activities to reach common goals, through information sharing, taking over responsibilities and solving difficulties to contribute to collective improvement and growth.

• Tools and qualification percentages:
  • Written test to be taken (%): 30
  • Multiple-Choice Test (%): 20
  • Individual works (%): 10
  • Team projects (problem solving, project design)) (%): 40

To pass this subject, the student must get at least 40% of the points in each of the following sections:

- Group work (40% of the final grade)

- Individual tasks/assignments done and submitted during the semester (10% of the final grade).

- Written exam: 20% multiple choice questionnaire and 30% short questions.



Deadlines for assignments submission and evaluation will be defined during the course.

Tasks and assignments will be evaluated so the progress made by each student can be assessed.

In case the health situation forces the University to switch teaching to distance learning, the tasks and assignments will be submitted through available resources (eGela, BBC and e-mail), and the evaluation system will remain the same.

In any case, students have the right to opt for final evaluation regardless of having participated in the summative evaluation. To have access to final evaluation the student should manifest his/her decision to opt for this evaluation system to the responsible lecturer as stated in the applicable regulation. Final evaluation will include:

- All the topics addressed during the semester in the master classes, seminars and computer practices.

- As many tasks/exercises as needed for the student to demonstrate acquired competences and knowledge.

Students who fail in the ordinary call, regardless of the evaluation system followed during the course, are entitled to final evaluation during the extraordinary call.
