Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

The fundamental objective of the work is for the students to demonstrate their maturity when addressing their own subject (be it either theoretical or practical) of the degree independently, so that it reinforces the skills for professional practice.

Skills/Learning outcomes of the subjectToggle Navigation

The Final Year Project (FYP) of the biology degree is associated with the achievement of the competences that are included in the degree-report as follows.

-To develop the ability to identify unknowns and problems in the field of Biology and to propose strategies for their assessment and eventual resolution.

-To progress in oral and written communication in the native language, as well as in the knowledge and use of English as a means for scientific communication.

-Improve computer skills related to the field of study to allow adequate data and results management and efficient treatment of scientific information sources.

-To integrate creatively taught knowledge and that learned autonomously, allowing the resolution of biological problems by applying the scientific method.

-To acquire the ability to organize, plan and execute work autonomously or in teams.

-To perform services and processes related to Biology.

-To direct, write and execute projects in Biology.

-To relate the FYP to democratic values and sustainability, considering any of its three dimensions: social, economic or environmental. This includes addressing issues such as gender perspective, social welfare, sustainable economic growth, climate action, ecosystem protection or other aspects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

MethodologyToggle Navigation

The final year project will have an eminently practical content. Its main objective concerning the methodology is to offer students the opportunity to deepen into the learning of basic methodologies within the chosen specialty and to learn to apply them to the resolution of a practical case under the direction and supervision of a professor. Therefore, the DFP will include the following activities:

1) Individualized tutoring arranged with the director.

2) Autonomous work of the student guided by its director in the development, delivery, presentation and defence phases of the FYP.

3) It is recommended that students attend seminars, workshops, conferences, courses or activities of interest in the subject or speciality related to the FYP. These activities may address a variety of topics, including literature search, data analysis, programming, effective defense techniques, the importance of the gender perspective in Biosciences or ethics in research with humans, animals and genetically modified organisms, among others.
