David López Jiménez is assistant professor and researcher at the UPV/EHU. He holds a degree (2004) and a PhD (2009) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the UPV/EHU. He did his PhD thesis in the area of membrane biophysics at the Biophysics Unit (UPV/EHU-CSIC), under the supervision of Prof. Alicia Alonso. Between 2009 and 2017, he worked as a researcher in the company Laminar Pharmaceuticals, a spin-off of the University of the Balearic Islands. He obtained a Torres-Quevedo contract to investigate nanoparticles combined with synthetic fatty acids in a therapeutic approach against cancer. Afterwards, he focused on the study of synthetic lipids and their application in antitumor and antineurodegenerative therapies. In this postdoctoral period, he also worked as professor at the Univ. of the Balearic Islands. From March 2017 until September 2021, he worked at the Biofisika Institute (UPV/EHU-CSIC) studying acute myeloid leukemia. His current research focuses on lipidology and prostate cancer, in the UPV/EHU research group led by Dr. Verónica Torrano. Since September 2018, he is professor in the degrees of Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Chemistry.

He has participated in 12 research projects, 2 of which as principal investigator, he is coauthor of 23 scientific papers, 2 book chapters and 2 divulgative articles. He has (co-)directed 3 Master Thesis, 6 Final Degree Work and 9 external internships.
