Julen Araluce (Bilbao, 1984) is a researcher, painter and professor at the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Graduate (2007) and doctorate (2017) in Fine Arts from this university, he has participated in different scholarships and research and creation stays in different places: Bradford (UK), Portsmouth (UK), Córdoba and Macerata (Italy). He has participated in both national (Bilbao, Zaragoza, Segovia, Córdoba, Salamanca, Marbella) and international (Portugal, France, Japan) individual and collective exhibitions. From 2010 to 2020, he worked as a teacher in secondary education, the framework where he focused his thesis.
Currently he develops two lines of research that complement his teaching work. The first, pictorial, focuses on painting and drawing and on the relationship that both maintain with memory. The second, an extension of the first one, tries to focus on the way in which people understand and approach the painting and its context.
