Apart from meeting the general requirements to access this Doctoral Programme, the candidate must also show an interest in research in the broad field of Social Sciences. People from other areas and disciplines will also be welcome, but they should be aware that the research work must be aimed at the social sphere, and they must also accredit having studied a master's degree related to Social Sciences in a broad sense (including Law, Psychology, Philosophy, International Relations, etc.).
So, any qualifications obtained on the completed master's degree will be taken into account, particularly those from courses related to the methods and techniques of social research, social theory and applications in the processing and knowledge of research techniques, statistical analysis of data and a knowledge of qualitative techniques of social research.

Procedure for assigning a faculty member as a doctoral thesis tutor and director
Once a student has been accepted onto the doctoral programme, the Academic Commission will assign them a tutor and at least one director from among the faculty at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) participating in the programme.
When a letter of endorsement is required from Doctoral Programme, director of the candidate will be the person indicated at the endorsement letter. No candidates will be accepted without endorsement letter, when it is required by doctoral programme.
Tutors are responsible for interactions between the doctoral candidate and the Academic Commission. They are also responsible for adapting training and research activities to the principles of the programmes and, where appropriate, the Doctoral School.
