Summary:

A THEORY, ANALYSIS AND CRITIQUE OF FINE ARTS, OUR WORK INVOLVES RESEARCH INTO THE SYMBOLIC STRUCTURE OF CLASSICAL STORYTELLING FROM HOLLYWOOD, THE ANALYSIS OF WHICH WE DEVELOP IN "MOGAMBO" BY JOHN FORD. THE THEORETICAL DISCIPLINES THAT GUIDE OUR RESEARCH ARE ANTHROPOLOGY, PSYCHOANALYSIS, NARRATOLOGY AND THE THEORY OF THE TEXT.  THE MAIN BODY OF THE THESIS IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR CHAPTERS, THE FIRST TWO BEING THEORETICAL AND THE LAST TWO DEDICATED TO AN ANALYSIS OF THE FILM IN QUESTION. THE FIRST CHAPTER HAS BEEN DEVOTED TO A REVIEW OF THE DISCIPLINES AND THEORIES THAT GUIDE OUR ANALYSIS OF THE FILM "MOGAMBO."
AS WE MAINTAIN THE FACT THAT THE NARRATIVE STRUCTURE OF THE CLASSICAL HOLLYWOOD FILM TEXT IS MYTHICAL AS OUR MAIN HYPOTHESIS, WE THEN START BY REVIEWING THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL NOTION OF THE MYTH.
FROM PSYCHOANALYSIS WE RETAIN WHAT COMPRISES A THEORY OF LANGUAGE IN DIRECT RELATION TO THE CONSTITUTION OF HUMAN SUBJECTIVITY. FOR ITS PART, THE NARRATIVE SEMIOTICS ENABLES US TO FORMALIZE AN INITIAL ANALYSIS WHICH WE ATTEMPT TO EXTEND TO A THEORY OF THE STORY CAPABLE OF CONCEIVING PEOPLE AS "LOCUS SIMBOLICUS" AND THEIR ACTIONS AS BEING STRUCTURED BY A PATTERN.
IN THE SECOND PART, WE DEAL WITH AN ANALYSIS OF THE NARRATIVE STRUCTURE OF THE FILM "MOGAMBO" FROM THE STANDPOINT OF CONSTRUCTING A CLASSICAL MODEL OF TEXT AS ONE SHAPED BY A SPECIFICALLY MYTHOLOGICAL STRUCTURE.
