Summary:

SYNCHRONIC AND DIACHRONIC RESEARCH INTO THE DESIGNING OF SOVIET POSTERS - A STRIKING EXAMPLE OF THE RICH, PLURAL WORLD OF COMMUNICATION WHILE AT THE SAME TIME ONE WHICH HAS HARDLY BEEN STUDIED. THE AIM OF THIS PhD THESIS IS TO DO A DIACHRONIC AND SYNCHRONIC SCRIPTURAL-ICONIC X-RAY OF THE DUALITY BETWEEN THE MAIN OPPOSITES (US-FRIENDS AND THEM-ENEMIES) PRESENT IN THE PLAKATS OR SOVIET POLITICAL POSTERS DISTRIBUTED IN RUSSIAN AROUND THE SOVIET UNION DURING THE REVOLUTION-CIVIL WAR (1917-1922), THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR (1941-1945) AND THE ERA OF PERESTROIKA (1985-1991). IN THE THESIS, MAINLY THE WAY IN WHICH SUCH OPPOSITES ARE REFLECTED, DEFINED AND PRESENTED HAS BEEN STUDIED.  FROM THE SYNCHRONIC STANDPOINT, THE SUBJECT OF PLAKATS HAS BEEN STUDIED - THE US, THE MAIN DUTIES OF THE ACTANT, THE CHARACTERIZATION OF PERSONAGES, THE ACTIONS DENOTED AND CONNOTED, THE SPATIAL AND SOCIAL SITUATION OF THE NARRATION, THE BROAD POLITICAL CONTEXT, THE TECHNIQUES OF PERSUASION AND THE MAIN CLICHÉS. FROM THE DIACHRONIC STANDPOINT, AN ANALYSIS HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT ON THE DENSITY OF THE SCRIPTURAL-ICONIC ELEMENTS THAT MAKE UP THE PLAKAT, AN EXAMINATION OF THE DESIGN EMPLOYED BY AUTHORS IN MAKING THE PLAKAT, RESEARCH INTO THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MAIN PERSONAGES WHO APPEAR IN THEM AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE POLITICAL SEMANTICS OF THE CONNOTED OBJECTS THAT FORM PART OF THE PLAKIST STAGE DESIGN.
