The Nursing Department I is located within the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing. Faculty and research staff linked to Nursing Science work in this department. The Department has researchers who belong to several consolidated research groups recognized by the Basque Government. Thus, part of the activity of the teaching staff is dedicated to teaching in university master's degrees and to the supervision of doctoral theses in different doctoral programs. The teaching staff and research staff of the Department participate in regional and national research projects, as well as in contracts with companies and other entities.

Regarding Postgraduate Studies, the Department coordinates the “Master's Degree in Health Promotion and Community Health” and the “Master’s Degree in Healthy Aging and Quality of Life”. Part of the staff also teach in other Master's degrees, including “Public Health”, “Microbiology and Health”, “Pharmacology. Development, evaluation and rational use of drugs” and “Biomedical Research”. The Department is responsible for the teaching of all undergraduate courses belonging to the Nursing knowledge area in the Bizkaia campus. It also teaches within the University Degree in Human Sciences in the Experience Classrooms (Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa Campus).
