Goals

(1) Promote...

the use of computational methods at a large scale in studies of ecology and evolution

(2) Encourage...

the use of public data bases for biodiversity, the environment and genetics

(3) Provide...

powerful computational and data storage resources that vastly exceed the capacities of ordinary laptops and desktop workstations

Examples:

-Analyses with great quantities of data (hundreds of gigabytes)

-Medium scale parallel analyses en R with up to 24 cores

-Large scale parallel analyses using CUDA to take advantage of 384 processors on NVidia graphics card (e.g. BEAST2, MrBayes)

-Analysis and modeling of phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary processes, Bayesian analyses and intesive bootstrap exercises

-Bioinformatics in the broad sense, from the assembly of genomes to large, automated GIS analyses
