Automatic Control Group

The Automatic Control Group is a leading research team in Spain specializing in the application of control techniques to advanced energy systems. It has played a pioneering role in the field of marine renewable energy, particularly in the control of Oscillating Water Column (OWC) plants. In parallel, the group is among the few internationally recognized research teams addressing plasma control in nuclear fusion reactors—an essential area in the early stages of the fusion roadmap.
The group has made substantial contributions to both research lines, as reflected by numerous publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals (JCR) and the successful supervision of multiple PhD theses. It maintains strong institutional collaborations with key stakeholders in these domains. Notably, it has formal agreements with the Basque Energy Agency (EVE) for research at the OWC-based pilot plant NEREIDA, located in Mutriku (Bizkaia); with CICbioGUNE for biomedical applications; and with the CIEMAT National Fusion Laboratory, facilitating access to the TCV reactor at CRPP Lausanne through the EURATOM framework.
