L. Pérez Álvarez graduated in chemistry at the University of the Basque Country, where she also obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2007. In 2003 Leyre Pérez began her career in the Department of Physical Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country, joining the Macromolecular Chemistry Research Group. Since 2012 she is Associate professor at the University of the Basque Country. Her investigation started on the field of the synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles for applications in biomedicine. In the last years her research has focused on active polymeric surfaces acquiring expertise in the development of surface modification of polymers and new polymeric materials in the form of multilayers, membranes and gels. In 2015 her investigation partially joined the BCMaterials, Basque Center for Materials, Applications and Nanostructures, where she has been working on polymer based smart materials for biomedical applications.
