Abstract:

Examples refer to computer implemented methods for optimizing transmission of streaming video contents based on user Quality-of-Experience (QoE) metrics. These streaming video contents are transmitted from a video hosting server to a video player on a terminal over a network connection. An optimization module receives, from the video players communicatively coupled to the optimization module, QoE metrics related to video streams. The optimization module analyses the QoE metrics with respect to a QoE policy to optimize the transmission of the video streams. The QoE policy is associated to the received QoE metrics. Then, the optimization module determines adjustments in operative parameters of an application layer in the transmission of the video streams based on the analysis. After that, the optimization module causes the adjustments to be applied in the application and network layer.
