This chapter is for the individual seeking to enhance the content of his or her course on the Principles of Learning through a consideration of international variables. The present chapter presents some suggestions for how international cross cultural variables can be introduced into such courses in learning. To begin, it is worth examining the origins of all this generality and consistency discussed in the preceding paragraphs which have contributed to the lack of consideration of international variables. The instructor can draw on the mini lecture presented here to discuss the development of the general-principles approach and how seeming exceptions to those principles furthered the field. The point of such a discussion in the classroom is to illustrate the value of searching for differences, even when seeking general principles, as well as to discuss how thinking about evolution within the area might help identify where crucial differences could exist. The instructor can also take differences attributed to sociocultural variables that have been identified and investigated in other areas and frame those within the basic processes and theories found in learning courses.
