Research Interests
- Asymmetric devices and nonhermitian physics:
The atom diode (a laser device for unidirectional motion) and its applications. Symmetries of nonhermitian Hamiltonians and selection rules. Microscopic heat rectifiers in trapped ion chains.
- Time in quantum mechanics:
A long term goal is to understand time from the perspective of quantum mechanics.
Along the years we have investigated how to integrate time observables into the quantum formalism: tunneling times, arrival times, dwell times, decay times.
- Shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA):
Techniques to speed up adiabatic processes. Fundamental theory and applications for metrology, cooling, interferometry, quantum gates. For trapped ions STA are used to facilitate all the motional operations (rotations, separations, transport) needed to achieve a scalable architecture.
