Abstract
The aim of my work is to develop a pragmatic account of aesthetic judgments, that is, to inquire into what is what we do when we make an aesthetic judgment. I discuss cases of the so-called faultless disagreements (FD), focusing on the view presented by Kölbel (2004). Examples of aesthetic discussions are usually taken as good candidates for these kind of disagreements, even though matters of taste are usually at stake. I conclude that, first, relativist and contextualist positions are not justified, and, second, that many of the problems about FD arise from a misunderstanding of what an aesthetic judgment is. I develop and defend a realist theory of aesthetic judgments. To do so, I use some of the ideas defended by Kivy (2015) and the framework of Critical Pragmatics (Korta and Perry, 2011).
