Brief description:  The RedVLP is a thematic and scientific network aiming to develop vaccines against the diseases that the populations of these countries suffer. The purpose of this network is to generate synergy between partners from academia, industry, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in order to overcome the scientific, technical, financial, and even operational difficulties that exist in developing new vaccines. This challenge is even greater when the vaccines to be developed are against the neglected diseases most prevalent in Latin American countries. Apart from the traditional ways of cooperation between scientific and industrial groups, like workshops and courses, the novelty in our activity is to promote crowd-funding as a new financial tool to support our research activities.

The vaccine developments are focused on the use of virus-like particles (VLPs), as we pretend to employ one of the cutting-edge technologies in the field of vaccinology.  Some of our groups are currently working on the development of vaccines against Chagas, and soon we hope to also address leishmaniasis.
