Specific programme: COST – European Cooperation in Science and Technology

Project start: 18/03/2014
Project end: 17/03/2018
Brief description: This Action brings together the expertise of experts working in advanced materials science to build a coherent theory and computing platform with a new common data format to model sophisticated spectroscopy experiments performed at advanced radiation sources (ARS) as well as in academic and industrial research laboratories. Complementary theoretical approaches will allow to address a wide variety of materials. Ultimately, accurate interpretation of spectroscopies will provide the means to access the intimate origin of the macroscopic behaviour of materials, for which a detailed knowledge of the electronic, magnetic and geometric structure at the atomic level is a prerequisite. The platform established through this Action will be widely available to academic and industrial users. Close contact will be maintained through an extensive website, a series of workshops and a network of contact points at European synchrotron radiation (SR), X-ray free electron laser (XFEL) and neutron source (NS) centres. As the Action primarily aims to coordinate and synchronise ongoing research developments and activities, as well as to enhance the interaction between theory and experiment in the broader field of spectroscopy, COST is the most suitable framework to achieve these objectives.
