AN ANALYSIS OF THE BASQUE DAILY PRESS IN THE AUTONOMOUS REGION OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY DURING THE TRANSITION TO DEMOCRACY WAS DEEMED TO BE AN ESPECIALLY INTERESTING TASK WITHIN THE HISTORY OF COMMUNICATION. THE RESEARCH SOUGHT TO EXPLORE THE ROLE PLAYED BY THE DAILY PRESS IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY DURING THE TRANSITION AND THE TRANSFORMATIONS THAT THE POLITICAL PROCESS ITSELF GENERATED IN THE DAILY NEWSPAPERS. THE RESEARCH WAS THUS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: THE FIRST IS A DESCRIPTION OF THE NEWS SCENARIO AND THE SECOND IS A HEMEROGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF THE CONTENTS PUBLISHED BETWEEN 1975 AND 1982 IN THE BASQUE DAILY PRESS. THE MOST IMPORTANT CONCLUSION DRAWN FROM THE THESIS IS THAT THE DAILY NEWSPAPERS PUBLISHED IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY BEFORE 1973 SUPPORTED THE POLITICAL REFORMS BUT DID NOT ABANDON THE CHANGE.
