Research interests I am a freshwater ecologist. My research explores river biofilms,
specifically how their structure and functioning are altered by global change,
both by climatic and anthropogenic pressures. During my PhD, at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA),
I addressed the effects of temporal components of the non-flow period on the structure and functioning
of river biofilm in Mediterranean regions. Currently, I am investigating how anthropogenic pressures,
such as hydromorphological alterations or diffuse urban pollution, affect river ecosystems.
To address this question, I combine mesocosm experiments, using our experimental stream facilities,
and field studies at different spatial scales, from reach to catchment scale, to unravel the effects of
anthropogenic pressures on river biofilm and its recovery capacity after river restoration |
