Descripción y Contextualización de la AsignaturaAlternar navegación

It is an optional subject of the Art History Degree of indifferent course, which is taught during the second quarter.



It is assigned 6 teaching credits, which is equivalent to 150 hours of work, of which: 60 hours are face-to-face (40 hours of lectures and 20 hours of classroom practice) and 90 hours are non-face-to-face.



The course introduces the main artistic manifestations developed in the Basque Country during the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as their main characteristics.

1. Identify and analyze the main artistic manifestations that emerged in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the Basque Country, handling with critical spirit the fundamental sources and specific bibliography.



2. Characterize and explain the main features of the plastic languages and the fundamental works of the period in the Basque Country, making a correct use of the specific vocabulary of Contemporary Art with an oral and written expression appropriate to the discipline and the level of the university degree.



3. To critically assess the relationship between artistic proposals and the socio-cultural context, evidencing the influence of the Basque historical framework in the art of the period.



4- To analyze the creative processes of the different periods and contexts relating them to each other, highlighting the influence of the context in the practice of the visual arts, as well as the repercussions in the artistic framework of each moment.

5. To achieve a level of oral and written expression appropriate to the level of university graduate.

Contenidos teórico-prácticosAlternar navegación

Art in the Basque Country during the 19th century. An introduction to the economic, social and political situation of the Basque Country in the 19th century and an analysis of the main artistic manifestations developed in the Basque Country throughout the century and of the artists that extend nineteenth-century uses to the first decades of the 20th century.



Pre-war artistic manifestations in the Basque Country. The main artistic manifestations carried out in the Basque Country between the end of the 19th century and throughout the first three decades of the 20th century are analyzed, from the manifestations of the first modern artists to the appearance of an incipient avant-garde in the 1930s.



Postwar artistic manifestations in the Basque Country. Postwar sculpture and the main pictorial trajectories developed in the Basque Country during this period are studied.



4. New generations of artists in the Basque Country. The artistic situation of the Basque Country at the end of the Dictatorship is analyzed, the new situation that arises in a new political and social framework, as well as the artistic manifestations carried out by new generations of artists.

1. Theoretical-magisterial sessions: the teacher will present in class the theoretical contents of the course.



2. Compulsory practical sessions:



-Presential in the classroom: students with the help of the teacher will analyze and comment on works of art, sources, bibliography or audiovisual material.



-Out of the classroom: if the students have availability and if they agree with the teacher, visits to the Museum of Fine Arts of Alava and the Museum of Fine Arts of Bilbao will be possible.



3. Voluntary tutorials: individual or group tutorials to monitor the development of the teaching-learning process or to ask questions about the evaluation tests.



4. Non-attendance work to be carried out by the student: it will be an individual or group work aimed at the preparation of the different evaluation tests.

This course has a continuous evaluation system. The final grade in the course is derived from the following tests and assignments:

- Objective written test: (50 %)

Through a written test in which the student will be asked to comment on some of the works of art seen in class and the development of a topic studied within the content of the subject, the achievement of the competences to be acquired in this subject will be assessed:

- Identification of the works of art and correct attribution of the most relevant authors and works of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the Basque Country.

- Correct assignment of a specific chronology to the fundamental works of art and artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the Basque Country.

- Correct application of the stylistic and formal characteristics of 19th and 20th century art in the Basque Country to the works proposed for analysis.

- Proper incorporation of bibliographical references and documentary sources worked throughout the course.

- Relation of the artistic manifestations of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in the Basque Country with those of other geographical areas and with the historical context in which they are developed.

- Grammatically and orthographically correct written expression, as well as appropriate construction of the written discourse: coherence (adequacy of the internal development to the content), clarity, order in the expression and orderly development of ideas.



Practical work:



- Individual work on a living artist (20%)



- Completion of the practices proposed throughout the course (20%).



- Work in pairs (10%)



Students will have the right to be evaluated through the final evaluation system, regardless of whether or not they have participated in the continuous evaluation system. To do so, they must submit a written waiver to the teacher of the subject, for which they will have a period of 9 weeks (counting from the beginning of the term).



Convocatoria Extraordinaria: Orientaciones y RenunciaAlternar navegación

The evaluation of the subjects in the extraordinary calls will be carried out exclusively through the final evaluation system in which the students will be able to obtain 100% of the grade. The final evaluation test of the extraordinary call will consist of as many exams and evaluation activities as necessary to evaluate and measure the defined learning outcomes, in a manner comparable to how they were evaluated in the ordinary call.

Reminder: students who are in the 5th or 6th call of the course will not be evaluated by the professor of their group, but by the relevant court created for these cases.
