Description The GAUDEE research group develops advanced experimental physics systems, instrumentation and control in a broad sense, with an emphasis on devices, experiments or systems with scientific, technological and industrial interest. Three main research lines are currently active; The first relates to research in particle accelerator science and technology, around which the group has developed various prototypes of latest generation devices, including ion sources, particle beam diagnostics, RF and control devices, and their corresponding electronics. A new compact proton source of our own design and manufacture stands out, intended for low current and low energy applications, including the field biomedicine. In this line of work, advanced distributed control techniques are being developed, which allow for the monitoring and control of complex systems in an agile way. This in turn allows their integration into EPICS control networks, which are very widespread in the environment of the particle accelerators. The second active line refers to the development of new sensors and actuators based on new materials and principles. In this field, new nanopositioning actuators are designed and manufactured by the group. Worth mentinoning are those based on new ferromagnetic shape memory materials, and new subnanometric resolution sensors developed based on radio frequency (RF) resonant systems. Finally, the third line is dedicated to the application of advanced control techniques to problems and industrial processes of high economic interest. Specifically, work has been done on reducing the structural load in large wind turbines, as well as eliminating regenerative vibrations in machine tools and developing epidemiological models and control strategies. It should be noted that the research group proposes the validation of the instrumentation and the control techniques developed in an experimental way, working, therefore, both on the precise measurement and data acquisition, as well as its processing and management. |
