Description Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of mortality worldwide and one of the main factors that contribute to the development of disease is atherosclerosis. Our research group has established new methodologies to characterize the pathogenicity of LDLR, APOB and PCSK9 variants, the main genes causing familial hypercholesterolemia. Our interest is focused on the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic tools that contribute to the development of personalized medicine. For this we have developed an algorithm based on machine-learning that predicts the pathogenicity of mutations in LDLR. We are also developing an atherosclerotic tool based on the development of recombinant HDL, functionalized with different microRNAs to promote the reverse transport of cholesterol and reduce the inflammatory state of atherosclerotic lesions. |
