Research Interests
My current research activity is mainly related to the theory and phenomenology of Bose-Einstein condensation in quantum degenerate atomic gases. These systems represent a unique opportunity for multidisciplinary research that covers many areas of physics, including solid state physics, superfluidity, non-linear physics and disordered systems. They also have two great advantages: they are characterized by a high tunability of most of the parameters, and they allow to probe the effects of quantum mechanics effects at a macroscopic level.
In particular, I am currently interested in the properties of BECs in periodic, quasi-periodic and disordered optical lattices, concerning transport properties, superfluidity, instabilities, disorder induced localization and the effects of interactions/nonlinearities.
