Sociodemographic determinants of fertility behaviors and its consequences
This research line focuses on the demographic and social determinants of fertility behavior and its consequences for individuals’ wellbeing. We are interested in how individual characteristics and resources shape fertility choices and opportunities: age, health, education, economic resources, social network and support, access to infertility services are all crucial factors that interact and determine both fertility intentions and the ability to realize them. Furthermore, they shape how such choices and the process leading to their realization (or not) affect individuals’ wellbeing and health. This is of growing interest in societies where fertility choices are often delayed for the lack of proper conditions, leading to increasing probability of not being able to realize ones’ intentions and desires about family formation.
