Dr. Janire Saez Castaño

Biography
Janire Saez studied a Degree in Chemistry and a Master in Pharmacology at University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) until 2013. Thanks to a Leonardo Da Vinci Fellowship she did an internship at the Environment Agency in UK until 2014. Later, she completed her PhD in microfluidics and smart materials for environmental sensing and control in the same University in 2017, under the supervision of Associate Professor Fernando Benito Lopez and Professor Luis Angel Fernandez Cuadrado. Then, she moved to University of Cambridge to Professor Ròisín Owens’s group where she got a Postdoctoral Basque Government Fellowship and the prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship to develop hybrid organ-on-chip and bioelectronic models for cancer research. In 2020, she was awarded an Ikerbasque Research Fellowship and, in 2021, she joined the BIOMICS-microfluidics Research Group within the Microfluidics & Biomics Cluster UPV/EHU.
Research
Her research line focuses in the development of alternative organ-on-chip models for cancer research: microfluidics, bioelectronics and smart materials.
