The internal, university-accredited courses offered by the University of the Basque Country are organised and structured in accordance with the following levels, depending on their aims, the type of students for which they are designed and the qualifications or certificates to which they provide access:
- Undergraduate degrees: University-accredited undergraduate degrees and qualifications linked to official, government-accredited undergraduate degrees.
- Postgraduate degrees: University-accredited Master's degrees, University Specialisation Qualifications and University Expert Qualifications.
- University Extension Diplomas.
- Complementary Courses.
University-accredited Master's degrees
These courses generally consist of between 60 and 120 ECTS credits and must last for at least one academic year. These postgraduate courses are aimed at those who have already earned their undergraduate degree.
University Specialisation Qualifications
These courses consist of between 30 and 59 ECTS credits, and last for either one or two semesters. As with the university-accredited Master's degrees, these postgraduate courses are aimed at those who have already earned their undergraduate degree. Under exceptional circumstances, professionals with no undergraduate qualifications may be accepted onto the course, providing they have extensive experience in the field of study. The maximum number of students admitted under these circumstances is 2 per course or 5% of the total number of students enrolled. In addition to this percentage, however, and in accordance with the specific characteristics of each course and in response to a request made by the person responsible for said course, the Postgraduate Commission may expressly authorise the admission of additional professionals with extensive experience in the corresponding field of study.
University Expert Qualifications
These courses consist of between 15 and 29 ECTS credits, and last for one semester. They are mainly targeted at those in possession of a university degree, although up to 20% of the students accepted onto the course do not necessarily have to have said qualification. In addition to this percentage, however, and in accordance with the specific characteristics of each course and in response to a request made by the person responsible for said course, the Postgraduate Commission may expressly authorise the admission of additional professionals with extensive experience in the corresponding field of study.
University Extension Diplomas
These courses consist of between 30 and 60 ECTS credits. The access requirements for acceptance onto a University Extension Diploma course are those established by current law for university admissions. Under exceptional circumstances, those who are able to provide documentary evidence of extensive experience in the field related to the area of study may also be accepted onto the course.
University Extension Teaching/Training
Teaching/Training that allows the expansion, specialization, improvement and/or updating of knowledge. These are updating, specialization, recycling and knowledge expansion courses aimed at the complementary and continuous training of students. They may have an extension of up to 60 ECTS credits. It will be called “University Extension Course / Certificate".
