Competencies

  • Be able to compare and analyse the effects of diversity on language structure.
  • Be able to deduce the morphosyntactic properties of natural languages, drawing from the study of linguistic diversity.
  • Be able to distinguish between phonetic and phonological phenomena in natural languages.
  • Be able to formulate and prove scientific hypotheses (both your own and others) and plan research based on these hypotheses in your specialist area.
  • Be able to identify and understand the effects of language evolution.
  • Be able to single out the formal features of principles determining the usage of linguistic utterances when describing the same.
  • Be able to understand experimental methods from cognitive science, and know how to apply them in the field of psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics.
  • Be able to work both in a team and independently, in an international, multi-disciplinary context.
  • Be able to write up research projects.
  • Develop the ability to describe, analyse and debate linguistics and evaluate and critique own and others' hypotheses, which includes applying linguistic methodologies and tools.
  • Know how to apply knowledge, theoretical principles and methodologies, and research techniques acquired throughout the educational process.
  • Know how to interrelate the theoretical, technical-methodological and practical components of the various sub-disciplines of linguistics, and relate linguistic knowledge with other areas of knowledge.
  • Know how to produce academic and scientist papers in the field of linguistics, as well as orally deliver their content effectively.
  • Know how to reflect on the linguistic realities in the world, in order to understand the relevance of language studies in our environment and the impact and usefulness of this discipline.
