Michele Modugno (male) is Ikerbasque Research Professor at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU (Bilbao, Spain) since 2010. After his PhD in Theoretical Physics (1998), he has been Research Fellow at LENS (Florence), until 2010. There he was in charge of the theory group supporting the experiments in the group of M. Inguscio at LENS in Florence (Italy), and member of the BEC Center in Trento (Italy). These collaborations have led to several important achievements on the physics of Bose-Einstein condensates, and more in general of ultracold atoms in optical lattices and disordered potentials (coherence and interference properties of matter waves; vortices and superfluidity; atomic mixtures; transport properties, instabilities and dispersion management of condensates in optical lattices; condensates in quasiperiodic and disordered potentials). Since 2010 he is senior member of the QUINST group in Bilbao. His research activity covers theoretical and phenomenological aspects of ultracold atoms. He is author of about hundred publications, with more than 5000 citations (h-index=32), see researcherid.com/rid/A-6218-2009.
