I earned my Bachelor's degree and Ph.D. in Physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. After post-doctoral positions at the University of Rochester (US) and at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) in Paris, I joined the Department of Applied Physics I at the UPV/EHU in 1997, being now at the Bilbao School of Engineering.
I am part of the research group Quantum Information, Science and Technology Group (labeled A in the basque universitary system). My main research interests are control of cold atoms, quantum measurement theory and assymetric devices in the transmission of heat. I have participated in more than 20 research projects, coauthored more that 40 papers. I have supervised 1 phD thesis and currently co-supervising another one.
I have been vice-dean of University Extension (2009) and International Relations (2013-17) at the School of Mining and Civil Engineering, and Academic Secretary of the Applied Physics Department (2017-2021).
