Dr Mariló Gurruchaga is a Full Professor of Materials Science at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in San Sebastián (Spain). She received her Ph.D. in Macromolecular Chemistry from the UPV/EHU in 1990. She is currently teaching Materials Science, Polymeric Coatings and Polymeric Biomaterials. She has been Vice Dean for International Relations at the Faculty of Chemistry (2008-2016) and she is currently the responsible for Gender equality.
Together with Prof.Isabel Goñi she is the director of the Polymeric Biomaterials research team at the faculty of Chemistry. She has participated in more than 40 research projects with the financial support of local, national and European institutions and has been the main researcher of 12 of them. She has about 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 4 articles in science diffusion magazines. She has been the supervisor of 12 PhD theses.
Her research is focussed in the field of Biomaterials and she works at the interface of biology and materials science. A major part of the work is the development of osseoinductive materials and the drug delivery study for such materials. At present, the work in progress is in the dental field investigating coatings on metallic implants for osteoregeneration.
