José M. Asua is Professor of Chem. Eng. of the UPV/EHU and Director of the Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering, POLYMAT Fundazioa. He earned his BS from the University of Bilbao and the PhD from the University of Zaragoza. He was postdoc at the University of Liege and spent sabbatical years at Lehigh University as a Fulbright scholar and University of Waterloo as Visiting Professor. He was Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Louvain and Dortmund University.
His research is focussed on the fundamental investigation of industrially relevant polymerization processes, with special attention to the production of waterborne polymer dispersions.
He edited two books, published one book and over 370 articles, given over 80 invited lectures, and more than 250 presentations. He is co-author of 12 patents and has advised 57 PhD Thesis. He served as Associate Editor of Polym. React. Eng. and as member of the Editorial Board of Chem. Eng. J., Macromol. Mater. Eng. and Macromol. React. Eng.
He received the Rhone-Poulenc Award for Clean Technologies, the Euskadi Research Award in Science and Technology, the Prof. Martínez Moreno award in Invention and Innovation and the award to the Excellence in Research form the RSEQ.
