Competencies

  • Ethical commitment and critical reasoning. We also want to show an ethical commitment to the most disadvantaged people in the globalisation process and in general to the developing countries and also to best practice in managing development aid. Similarly, we want to encourage students to use critical reasoning, with the constant but rigorously analytical questioning of documents and reports.
  • The ability to analyse and summarise. This means enhancing the ability of students to analytically approach issues, beyond their understanding and description, in order to identify the underlying causes of the issues and the best way to deal with their eventual transformation, given the dominant Political economy focus in the Master’s. In order to do this, it is necessary to first gain the ability to summarise.
  • The ability to apply theoretical knowledge to solve specific problems. The objective is to encourage students to systematically use all of the economic, social and legal theories in order to find the most suitable solution to each problem raised in the broad field of globalisation research. This implies paying constant attention to the frontier of knowledge in each of the related areas.
  • The ability to carry out interdisciplinary teamwork. The Master's degree includes courses that analyse the phenomenon of globalisation from different economic perspectives (Applied Economics, Principles of Economic Analysis, Organisation of Companies, Economic History) and different sociological, legal and political viewpoints.
  • The ability to organise and plan activities. Since the Master's degree is a broad set of activities that last for a whole year, it is necessary to develop in the students the ability to organise and plan activities, setting a schedule for delivering tasks and face-to-face sessions and a system for acknowledging receipt through the virtual platform associated with the course.
  • The ability to self-sufficiently develop knowledge. Given the distance frequently separating teacher and student, mitigated by the programme of face-to-face courses, it is necessary for students to develop the ability to learn independently based on the methodologies and techniques taught in the face-to-face courses.
  • The ability to work in an international context. The main objective of this Master's degree in Research, which is offered by several Latin American universities, is to promote a research environment that allows European and American universities to collaborate over the mid- to long-term on issues of mutual interest and from the viewpoint of comparative analysis. In order to achieve this, students will become familiar with the communication and information technologies.
