Lourdes Otaegi studied Basque Philology (Univ. Deusto, 1982) and received her doctorate in Basque Literature (1992) with a thesis about the poet Xabier Lizardi, whose work and historical period she studied. Her main line of research has been the literary period called the Basque. In addition to various articles and book chapters relative to the afore mentioned subject, she published Lizardiren poetika (1993), the essay that summarizes the predominant literary ideas of the period. She has also made monographic studies around the writers Xabier Lete, Bernardo Atxaga and Joseba Sarrionandia, Gabriel Aresti's and Kirmen Uribe's poetic performances (2019).

She is an associate professor in Basque Studies at the University of the Basque Country, and previously at the University of Deusto. Currently, in addition to the Grado studies, she teaches Basque literature in both the Master Studies in Basque Philology and Comparative Literature, as well as in the UNED, and in the Faculty of Lettres Modernes of Bayonne (Univ. Michel de Montaigne-Bordeaux III). She is a corresponding member of the Academy of the Basque Language (2003) and was secretary of its Commission of Literary Research during the period of elaboration of the Literature Terminoen Hiztegia (2008) between 2000-2008.

Regarding research, she has been principal investigator of the project Conflicts in brief format (US14 / 45) (2014-2016) and she is member of the Historical Memory Research Group in Iberian Literatures (IPM MJ
