After completing my BA in Basque Philology at the University of Deusto and doing my MA and PhD in Linguistics at the University of Washington in Seattle, I arrived at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in December of 1992. Ever since then, I have been teaching and doing research at the Faculty of Letters. Across the years I have taught courses primarily on grammar and general linguistics; currently, I am responsible for the courses Basque Syntax, Second Language I: Basque and Seminar to Specialize in Grammar. My research areas are: syntactic structure and morphology of Basque, ergativity, internal structre of the noun phrase, all from a generative and typological perspective. My most well-known works are Verbal Projections in Basque and Minimal Structure (1995), Hatsarreak eta Parametroak lantzen (2000), The functional structure of the Basque noun phrase (2002), and Genitive case and multiple checking in Basque (2012). I have supervised three PhD dissertations (Arteatx 2011, Monforte 2020 and Laita 2021, the last one with Maitena Etxebarria).
