The dissertation "Physiology of wheat and grain quality under different nitrogen fertilization regimes," belonging to the researcher Teresa Strong Mendizabal, received accesit in the 13th Convocation of Fertiberia Award for Best Doctoral Thesis in agricultural issues. The thesis has been performed at the Department of Plant Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU), under the direction of Dr. Jose M ª Estavillo Aurre and Dr Maria Begoña González Moro who expressly thanked the cooperation of Advanced Research Facilities (SGIker) and Neiker-Tecnalia, Basque Institute of Agricultural Research and Development in the development of research.
The presentation of this award, sponsored by Fertiberia and Juan Miguel Villar Mir Foundation, took place on Wednesday January 23rd, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, chaired by Minister Miguel Arias Cañete. During the ceremony, it was remarked the high scientific quality of the papers presented, whose convocation attended 41 doctoral theses. The award was received by the co-director of the thesis, Maria Begoña González Moro, and Professor Carmen Gonzalez Murua. The research group ENAF -Nitrogen use Efficiency in Agroforestry- has had, with this award, seen recognized his research on the physiological and molecular mechanisms of the use of nitrogen as the basis for achieving sustainable agriculture.
