Xabier Barrios Elcid -Pamplona, 1984- is an artist and photographer who lives and works in Bilbao. Doctor in Fine Arts by the Basque Country University, his thesis entitled "Art, Hybridization and New Technologies in the Information Era. The digital composition in the image as an artistic practice ". Nowadays teaches in Art and Technology Department of UPV/EHU Fine Arts Faculty of Leioa. During his career he has exhibited in places such as Rekalde Hall, Bilbao Arte, Huarte Center, Bilbao Exibition Center (BEC), Pamplona Citadel, Sala Araba, Getxo Arte, Portalea in Eibar, or MuVIM in Valencia.
I believe that artistic practice -among other qualities- has the capacity to question situations and socio-cultural problems of the current context. Therefore, my work asks about the means we use to capture and order the world, reflecting on new digital media and old analog technologies as forms of knowledge through image.
Thus, my work reflects issues in relation to how we understand and represent our environment. Trying to transmit, the doubts generated by certain strategies and processes already internalized that we apply in the construction of those media and that inevitably influence our perception, way of relating, understanding and realizing us as individuals within the information society.
