Maite Aperribay-Bermejo holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies, which was awarded the highest mark, Cum Laude. She started lecturing at the University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU in 2008. Since 2018 she is assistant professor at the Faculty of Education (Department of Language and Literature Didactics). She has also been visiting scholar at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies (Freie Universität, Berlin, Germany).

Her present research deals with contemporary literature, in the fields of gender, ethnicity and mainly, ecocriticism and ecofeminism. She is part of the REWEST (Research in Western American Literature and Culture) research group since 2013. REWEST is financed by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and by the Basque Government.

She is also member of the project "Children's and Young Adult Literature and Sustainable Development Goals" and the teaching innovation project "Early Childhood Education: building a quality education from substainability".

Her recent publications include the volume Ecoxicanismo: Autoras chicanas y justicia medioambiental, published in 2021 by the Universitat de València (ISBN 978-84-9134-847-4). Her ORCID is https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1188-1670.
