Once he finished the B.Sc (2015, UPV/EHU) and M.Sc (2016, UPV/EHU), he carried out the PhD under the supervision of Dr. J.M. Seco and Prof. E. Colacio (2021, UPV/EHU). The thesis received the international mention and the Extraordinary Award.
In the 2021/2022 academic course, he worked as a substitute in both Campus of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, but in 2022/2023 he joined the Faculty of Chemistry of Donostia as an Associate Professor in the department of Applied Chemistry (area or inorganic chem.). He teaches in both theoretical and experimental subjets, Inorganic Chemistry I and II in second and third courses, respectively. In 2022/2023 he supervised his first final degree project and he is currently co-supervising two PhD students in collaboration with University of Granada and DIPC.
Dr. Zabala-Lekuona's research focuses mainly in the study of novel coordination compounds based on lanthanides for future information storage devices. However, he is also studying novel inorganic compounds that could be used in agriculture (in collaboration with University of Granada). To fulfill these research purposes, he has participated in numerous projects with national funding. His fruitful studies gave rise to 14 research papers published in prestigious journals and he habitually joins national and international conferences.
