Iñaki Yusta received the B.Sc. degree in Science at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU, Leioa, Spain) in 1985, and the Ph.D. degree in Geology in 1993.
He has been teaching mineralogy and analytical techniques since 1989 and is a Full University Teacher at the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology (UPV/EHU). Currently, he is the Scientific Supervisor of the WD-XRF Laboratory of the SGIker Facilities (Servicios Generales de Investigacion, UPV/EHU) of this University.
His current research interests are i) the mineralogy and geochemistry of rocks, sediments and minerals, ii) anthropogenic contamination and post-mining environmental impact (Acid Mine Drainage) in soils, sediments and acidic mine pit lakes, iii) hydrothermal alteration in ore deposits, and iv) mineralogical and chemical characterization of Archaeological deposits, soils and artifacts (in caves, habitation soils and cultural sediments), phosphatic deposits and archaeometallurgy.
In the last 10 years has been involved in projects related with characterization of Acidic Pit Lakes formed in abandoned metal mines, specially on newly formed sulphides and Fe- and Al-minerals.
