Description and Contextualization of the SubjectToggle Navigation

This subject aims at introducing students to the technological needs that translation practice involves. To that aim, students will work with different technological tools.

Adaptar el ordenador a las necesidades del traductor.

Conocer en profundidad los procesadores de texto como principales herramientas del traductor.

Manejar con soltura herramientas informáticas profesionales.

Manejar con soltura las herramientas de traducción automática más desarrolladas.

Conocer someramente el funcionamiento de las memorias de traducción.

Manejar con soltura determinadas herramientas para la confección y recuperación de memorias de traducción.

Ser capaces de adaptarse rápidamente a las necesidades tecnológicas que surjan en el mercado.

Dominio oral y escrito de la lengua propia (G001).

Manejo de herramientas informáticas relativas al ámbito de la traducción y la documentación, así como de la traducción asistida (G005).

MethodologyToggle Navigation

Practical classes. A series of activities, both individually and in groups, in order to get training and practice the different tools taught in the classroom. Other activities in group to deepen the knowledge learnt in class.

The assessment will be organized in an ongoing manner. Here you will find the classification and criteria for the different items completing the evaluation:

- Activities to take in class (40%). The content of the subject will be tested and trained with practical activities in the classroom. The methodology will be diverse. We will provide feedback and schedule the activities with anticipation. Proficiency and observing the deadlines will be key for the evaluation of this part. It will be mandatory to deliver 80% of the activities to take in class within the deadline in order to pass the course.

- Teamwork, oral presentation (20%). We will evaluate self-learning and teamwork. Also, speech skills. Teams will be required to deepen their knowledge on a giving subject related to the main contents of the subject and they will be expected to present the outcomes in the classroom.

- First exam (20%). This exam focuses on the content related to the word processor, first block of compulsory material in the learning plan. We will evaluate the right use of the tools. Students need to get a mark of 4 or more so that the grade counts for the continuous evaluation.

- Second exam (20%). This exam focuses on the content related to MT and CAT, second block of compulsory material in the learning plan. We will evaluate the right use of the tools. Students need to get a mark of 4 or more so that the grade counts for the continuous evaluation.



As one of the transversal skills worked in this subject is the oral and written command of the student's own language, the writing in the evaluable tasks will have to be correct and adequate. Therefore, spelling mistakes will be penalized: 0.5 points will be subtracted for each mistake and if 6 or more mistakes are made, the assignment will be graded as failed.



Students need to check the regulation to opt for final evaluation instead of the continuous one. You can find that information on the website of the Faculty of Arts (UPV/EHU). Professors should be informed in the first nine weeks. Students that take this option will be evaluated with a final written and practical exam.
